Oh Brother,Where Art Thou?

Thou is at my house! Or at least he will be in a couple days. My brother is moving back to town and he is going to stay with me for awhile. So I spent all day getting his room ready, I wonder if I have time to paint it?

At the auction

I love going to auctions! Attended one in Terre haute yesterday that was loaded with cool stuff. Lots of primatives, crocks and old furniture and stuff!
This is the piece I brought home. I know it's kinda "crappy" but I like it! I think I'll put it on the Porch and it can be the "throne" for special visitors!

Here's the main reason I wanted to go to this auction,Fiesta! Unfortunately most of it was damaged and even with the damage the prices were too high! Oh well,at least I got a crappy chair!!!

The Porch

Since this blog is titled "From the Porch" I figured I ought to show you where I sit and contemplate life and spend a lot of time "on the porch"! A lot of nights there are several guys here, drinking beer, discussing their days and in general wasting time! Since I am right in the middle of one of my 12 hour stretches at work, everyone has thoughtfully stayed away! The chair to the extreme left in the pic is my chair that I observe the word from! I danced out into the street before it got dark this eve to get this pic, only startled one passer-by,a good night! Usually scare a few people when I venture "off THE PORCH!!!!

The shirt off his back.....

Well actually it wasn't his shirt and it wasn't on his back! Some friends of mine went up to Ozzfest in Indy this past weekend and who should they run into, none other than Rupert from Survivor! Knowing what a major Survivor fan I am they cozied up to Rupert and got his autograph for me! Not having any paper handy, they made one of their group give up his shirt to be signed for me! It sez "to Papa, arrgh,Rupert"!

My two garden helpers.....

I would be remiss if I didn't introduce you to my two valued assistants in working in the yard! This is Harle (short for Harlequin) checking the water level in one of the birdbaths.

And this is Homer (short for Homer) keeping a watchful eye out for predators. These guys are invaluable in the yard, hiding under stuff and attacking my hands when I'm pulling weeds, stalking the garden hose, digging holes (but usually not in the right spot),catching the odd, slow mouse and being their entertaining selves!

Oh, I forgot to give credit...

...to my gardener!!!!

The rest of the yard

Ok, I'm almost done,I know you are tired of looking at plants but I have just a couple more I want to share. This pic is of my ladder/trellis in the back yard. I buried it a few feet in the ground and sunk a couple metal fence post beside it and clamped the ladder to them so it ought to stay there for awhile! I have a wild wisteria growing up it. At the base is a rusted section of an old semi wheel rim and I put tomato plants in it this year.

This pic shows one of my two stumps in the front yard. I have cypress vine growing out the hollowed out areas of the stump. Cypress vine, also know as hummingbird vine, blooms like mad with little red star shaped flowers all summer that the butterflies and hummingbirds love. It self-sows very easily so it you are not careful it will take over the whole yard! But it is so pretty and feathery it is worth the effort of keeping it in control!

Still in the yard

Got your tools ready? When it was time to get a new toolbox to carry around the old one got a proper retirement! It now hosts celosia and a spot close to the center of my front flowerbed.
The other two pics show why most of the stuff in the bed is metal, not wood. This old wooden wagon wheel is almost comepletely gone from years of being outside, only the hub and a few of the spokes on one side remain. I soaked it down with Thompson's water seal last year and it seems to have slowed down the decay. Still looks preety cool though. Next to it is a concrete "acorn" finial. The black and the chartreuse ornamental sweet potato vines are growing nicely, filling in the bare spots and the Silver brocade is doing its part to hide the ugly mulch!

Flowers

Well since I have figured out how to post some pics he I'd better do that! I dunno if I mentioned i love messing around with plants and playing in the yard(mowing the grass is not hight on my list of fun things to do but you can reward yourself with a well-deserved beer when you are done! Not like I need a reason!). The previous post below shows the corner of my house with the old birdbath and my iron wheels and the wheel barrow. The first pic here is close to the opposite corner of the front of the porch with my lil red wagon. I love to find old rusted, useless things and incorporate them into my yard decor. The second pic is an old homemade watering trough from a farm auction I went to last summer. I planted the "black" elephant ears in it. There are true almost black elephant ears out there I just haven't found any bulbs yet.

EUREKA!

I DID IT!!!! Now to figure out what i did so i can do it again! (kinda sounds like my first time at sex!!!

My yard

Hmmm, did I do this, did I actually post a picture here? Have to go check!!!
